Inicjatorem "The solo project" jest Paul Kusseneers prowadzący galerię w Antwerpii. Ta nowa formuła targów stworzona przy współpracy 21 galerii z Europy i Ameryki, których priorytetem jest zwrócenie uwagi na pewne wartości nieobecne w międzynarodowym terminarzu wydarzeń związanych ze sztuką.

Znane jest w dzisiejszych czasach zjawisko pojawiania się nowych targów tworzących system satelit wokół głównych zjawisk na rynku sztuki. Celem "The solo project" nie jest mnożenie bytów, lecz stworzenie okoliczności, które wzmocnią doświadczanie sztuki współczesnej poprzez prezentację pogłębionej wizji pracy danego artysty.

Pragniemy przedstawić inne podejście, przypominające raczej cykl przemyślanych pokazów galeryjnych, w których sztuka ma miejsce na oddech, artyści na przejrzystą prezentację, a zwiedzający środowisko w którym prace mogą być analizowane jako zwięzła całość, a nie elementy większej układanki. Naturalnie galerie dysponować będą dziełami sztuki na sprzedaż, ale ich głównym celem jest powrót do funkcji estetyczno-edukacyjnej.

Prezentacja odbędzie się w umiejscowionej w samym sercu Bazylei Voltahalle w pierwszym tygodniu czerwca. Termin celowo pokrywa się z datami Art Basel, aby zwrócić uwagę publiczności na tą wyselekcjonowaną grupę artystów prezentujących swoje projekty solo i we współpracy.

W ramach tego kontekstu i w odpowiedzi na oczekiwania kolekcjonerów "The solo project" nie opiera swojego wyboru galerii na ich wieku, ale na osobistym zaproszeniu Paula Kusseneers i jego doradców.

"The solo project" has been set up by Paul Kusseneers Gallery from Antwerp and is supported by an array of 21 established galleries in both Europe and America in order to address a number of qualities we consider to be missing from the international art agenda.

The familiar environment of works being contextualized by dealers within a major art fair with the proliferation of an ever increasing number of subsidiary fairs is now common place. This project is not an attempt to replicate already existing art fairs but rather a chance to enhance the contemporary art experience presenting a more in depth view of each artist's work.
It is the plan of The Solo Project to take a different approach, resembling more, a series of considered gallery type shows in well constructed spaces for each gallery, giving the works more 'room to breath', the artists more room to make a clear presentation and the visitors an environment in which the works can be considered as a body of work rather than as loan pieces. The galleries exhibiting will have works for sale but the emphasis of this event will be a return to a scholarly based agenda.

The presentation will take place in the centrally located Voltahalle on the first week of June. The date coinciding with Art Basel will make a serious attempt to focus the art gallery going public on this carefully selected group of artists, each presenting solo or collaborative projects.

Within this context and in response to requests from an increasing number of collectors, The Solo Project will attempt to avoid basing its choices of participating artists and galleries on age as a defining factor but rather on the personal invitation of Paul Kusseneers and his advisors.
