Malgorzata Szymankiewicz:

Nowadays artists using a painting medium are taking an advantage from the possibilities which offers them for instance digital camera or visual art. Fast technical development and tendencies of seeing everything sharper, have created a situation where also contemporary art  is looking at reality more carefully. After all in painting appears mimetic trains, more and more complicated contents and meanings, with which abstractive art had been fighting. Under such circumstances arise many questions, for instance: If painting can still be independent? It’s for me so much important question, that fixes directions of my work. My work are self decrypting, about painting and a way I do understand it. There is no distinct border between form and content. But what content at all? Does it follow from the color surface? Or becomes derivatively forced in by the theoreticians of art? Where does the communicate ends and the clear abstract start? Does abstractionists experience is not possible to continue? As one can see, there is more doubts, than clear answers.
Paintings have to consider pure painting issues and a play with the abstractive painting convention. Color and spot became a main theme of my paintings. It turned out that simple problem becomes beginning of something, what has for me a deeper sense an makes me wonder. I’m interested in which forms displays the color on the canvas. It assumes usually form of “non-shape” spot or few strictly correlated spots. My paintings are color’s defining test, but no in scientific way. Using a color, I wanted to create a my own arte-facts and optical illusions, whose will be able to arise only in a painting form. That’s the reason why my paintings are phenomenological. I understand color as a phenomena, and a painting becomes a point of visual battle. That’s the kind of painting where former experience and work is very important, where I draw conclusions. These conclusions grow a subject of next paintings. Canvas I treat more like an experimental area, where everything can happen, but before it ensue you have to prepare to that perfectly and think the matter over.
